Second Grade Teacher

Fairfield Country Day School, a K-9 all-boys school in Connecticut, is seeking a second-grade teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead all aspects of the second-grade classroom program, including the teaching of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, character development, public speaking, and special events.
  • Monitor reading and math progress throughout the year through testing and making adjustments to instruction to meet the learning needs of all students. 
  • Create an active culture of learning that establishes positive relationships between boys and meets their unique social-emotional development.
  • Establish partnerships with families to provide regular feedback on student development through conversations and written progress reports.
  • Use formative assessments and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of individual students, challenging and supporting all learners.
  • Collaborate with other teachers across the school to use best practices for the teaching of boys, participating as fully as possible in the life of the school beyond the classroom.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of technology to support in-person, hybrid, and remote learning as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and directly with boys, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain curriculum maps and prepare lessons thoroughly.
  • Participate in the family-style dining program with boys.
  • Assist in enforcing school rules and policies.
Qualifications:
  • Independent school experience or familiarity is desirable
  • A Master’s Degree in Childhood Education and 3+ years of teaching elementary-age children are preferred
  • A strong knowledge base in the Science of Reading
  • Special expertise in quality reading instruction and intervention 
  • Experience with Illustrative Math preferred
