According to Diane Ruble, professor of psychology at New York University, in single gender environments, without the constraints of gender stereotypes that prevail in coed settings, boys have a greater freedom to be themselves. They become more engaged in art, music, drama, and foreign languages.
The purpose of the fine arts program at FCDS is to broaden the creative and cultural development of each student. We recognize the importance and value of this experience and its role in regard to education, personal growth, aesthetic appreciation, critical thinking, social interaction, and judgment. Our curriculum is based on the national standards of art education, and we maintain age-appropriate goals and artistic experiences for all the boys.

Included in the curriculum are a variety of art history experiences allowing the boys to assimilate the artists’ work with their own. In addition, the boys complete a variety of cross-curricular projects that support the work done in their academic classes.
