When asked to describe the Lower School experience at Fairfield Country Day, one word quickly comes to mind. Joy. The joy of learning something new. The joy of being an active participant in learning. The joy of being a member of a community of educators and students that cares for, encourages, and supports one another.
The educational benefit of this joy in our boys cannot be understated. It is what gives them the comfort and confidence to seek challenges, take risks, and develop into self-assured, resilient boys. I see it in the way our Kindergarten boys are able to confidently walk to the center of the stage in the auditorium and recite a poem in front of hundreds of fellow students, teachers, and parents. I witness it every day at our family-style lunches as I see third graders, our “Lower School leaders”, happily interact with our youngest students and model kind, respectful behavior.
Please take the time to look over and learn about our academic program. Our balanced, multisensory approach to teaching boys helps foster independence, social and intellectual growth, and a joy and love of learning.
Nothing can replace the energy and electricity of visiting our Lower School classrooms and walking the Lower School hallway. I encourage you to visit the Lower School and see firsthand what a child-centered, joyful place it is.
