Fourth Grade Teacher

Fairfield Country Day School, a independent K through 9 all-boys school in Connecticut, is seeking a fourth grade teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. 

Candidates should have a passion for teaching, a desire for collaboration, and experience with lower elementary school-aged students. The successful candidate will possess excellent teaching skills, high energy and flexibility, and a growth-oriented mindset. They will inspire and empower students by differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs, fostering student agency, and implementing research-based strategies that support critical thinking and executive function skills. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated commitment to the tenets described in the School’s Inclusive Excellence vision statement. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential for building meaningful connections with students, families, and colleagues.  Additionally, the candidate will actively engage in professional learning communities, commit to curricular alignment, and participate in ongoing professional development. 

Responsibilities:
  • Lead one of two fourth-grade homerooms, including the teaching of reading, writing, math, character development, public speaking, and special events.
  • Monitor academic progress throughout the year through testing and adjust instruction to meet the learning needs of all students. 
  • Create an active culture of learning that fosters positive relationships among boys and supports their unique social-emotional development.
  • Establish partnerships with families to provide regular feedback on student development through conversations and written progress reports.
  • Use formative and summative assessments as well as rubrics, providing regular academic updates, grades, and identifying differentiated instruction to meet the needs of individual students, challenging and supporting all learners.
  • Collaborate with other teachers across the school to use best practices for the teaching of boys, participating as fully as possible in the life of the school beyond the classroom.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of technology to support in-person, hybrid, and remote learning as needed.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of student-centered, interdisciplinary, and differentiated learning.
  • Communicate clearly and directly with boys, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain curriculum maps and thoroughly prepare lessons.
  • Participate in the family-style dining program with boys.
  • Assist in enforcing school rules and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications:
  • Independent school experience or familiarity is desirable
  • A Master’s Degree in Childhood Education and 3+ years of teaching elementary-age children are preferred
  • Experience with Illustrative Math preferred 
  • A strong knowledge base in the Science of Reading
  • Special expertise in quality reading instruction and intervention
