The Upper School continues to build on the foundation set in the Middle and Lower Schools with greater complexity and rigor. Our strong academic program is complemented by our goal of educating the whole boy and building boys of strong character. We are proud that Country Day boys are honest, respectful, empathetic, leaders, and resilient. They leave Country Day gentlemen and academically prepared for secondary schools.
The Upper School is a vibrant and supportive place. Our goal of providing a personalized learning environment is enhanced through family-style lunches and our advisor programs where faculty members get to know students. Whether it is their time around the lunch table, on the fields, or in the classroom, the dedicated faculty knows each student and helps to guide them to find their voice and passions. It is not uncommon for students to play sports, sing in the choir, perform in the annual musical, and take art.
Building leaders is something we initiate through the classroom and extracurricular activities. There is a strong emphasis placed on public speaking through the debate program, poetry recitations, and eighth and ninth grade speeches. Our enhanced curriculum incorporates over-night class trips for seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. The boys learn to lead with heart through service learning initiatives as well as fulfilling leadership roles on campus.
We have high expectations for our students and know that we are laying the foundation for them to be successful in high school and beyond. This time of unparalleled growth is very important and our teachers challenge the boys to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate, solve problems, and to be morally grounded.
