Fairfield Country Day School (FCDS) is a private, single sex day school in Fairfield, Connecticut. Founded in 1936 by Laurence W. Gregory, the school has since its inception admitted only boys. Teacher of Music (teach grades K-5; co-direct choirs, ensembles, and musical)
Fairfield Country Day School seeks an ambitious, dedicated, and visionary music teacher to co-direct a well-established program. All boys in grades K–9 at FCDS take music classes and participate in choirs.  In the Lower School, music classes build a foundation in singing and playing instruments.  Boys in grades 4-6 play recorders and chimes, and Upper School boys (grades 7–9) have the opportunity to participate in handbells, Pinstripes (a cappella group), and our Concert Choir. Our string ensemble welcomes boys of all ages.  Each year the music department produces several concerts and a musical. The department also organizes performances in the greater community, New York City, and tours abroad.
  • Teaches music classes (grades K-5)
  • Leverages relational learning and best practices for engaging young boys
  • In conjunction with Upper School music teacher, co-directs Pinstripes (a cappella group), Concert Choir, and other ensembles
  • Support musical or theatrical performance
  • Accompanies Upper School concerts
  • Coordinates and leads offsite appearances
  • Collaborates collegially with faculty, participating as fully as possible in the life of the division beyond music program
  • Communicates clearly and directly with boys, parents, and colleagues
  • Challenges and supports all learners through differentiation and adherence to any recommendations provided by outside specialists
  • Maintains curriculum maps and prepares lessons thoroughly
  • Assists in enforcing school rules and policies
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of School
  • Experience working with elementary and early adolescent boys
  • Experience with choral conducting
  • Ability to accompany; strong keyboarding skills
  • Experience directing musicals and/or theater preferred
