FCDS 4th Grade Visits with Artist Muriel Stockdale
The FCDS 4th Grade, accompanied by their teachers, travelled up Bronson Road to visit the "E Pluribus" show at ARC Fine Art.
The boys met artist Muriel Stockdale, who introduced them to her work with the iconic American flag. The show features a series of flags which demonstrate both the patriotism and the cultural diversity of our country. The boys had a wonderful time exploring the gallery and talking with the artist.
Fine Arts at FCDS
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” - Pablo Picasso
The purpose of the fine arts program at Fairfield Country Day is to broaden the creative and cultural development of each student. We recognize the importance and value of this experience and its role in regard to education, personal growth, aesthetic appreciation, critical thinking, social interaction, and judgment. Our curriculum is based on the national standards of art education, and we maintain age-appropriate goals and artistic experiences for all the boys.
Included in the curriculum are a variety of art history experiences allowing the boys to assimilate the artists’ work with their own. In addition, the boys complete a variety of cross-curricular projects that support the work done in their academic classes.
The art studio is spacious and well lit, equipped with large working surfaces where boys can creatively express themselves in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking.
