Arts

According to Diane Ruble, professor of psychology at New York University, in single gender environments, without the constraints of gender stereotypes that prevail in coed settings, boys have a greater freedom to be themselves. They become more engaged in art, music, drama, and foreign languages.

Performing and Visual Arts

Boys at Fairfield Country Day explore our rich selection of music, art, and theater opportunities. For the older boys at Country Day, t is just as “cool” to make the select bell choir as it is to make the football team, over 95% elect to participate in music or drama.

In the spacious art studio, boys explore and develop their creativity through the many mediums that are available such as ceramics, printmaking, drawing, painting, weaving, etching and computer generated art.
In addition to the hands on development in the arts, classes also include art history and music appreciation.

Visual Arts Program

The purpose of the fine arts program at Fairfield Country Day is to broaden the creative and cultural development of each student. We recognize the importance and value of this experience and its role in regard to education, personal growth, aesthetic appreciation, critical thinking, social interaction, and judgment. Our curriculum is based on the national standards of art education, and we maintain age-appropriate goals and artistic experiences for all the boys.

Included in the curriculum are a variety of art history experiences allowing the boys to assimilate the artists’ work with their own. In addition, the boys complete a variety of cross-curricular projects that support the work done in their academic classes.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
Pablo Picasso
