  • HOW TO MAKE AN FCDS EDUCATION

    ACCESSIBLE TO EVERY FAMILY
At FCDS, we believe that the cost of an independent school education should not be a deterrent for any prospective family.  We recognize that the cost of an FCDS education is a significant investment, so we offer need-based Tuition Assistance in the form of a financial aid grant.

More than 25% of our student body receive tuition assistance or remission.  We award nearly $1.7 million annually, with the average grant totaling $25,000 to families that qualify.  To apply for Tuition Assistance, please complete an application via Clarity

We make every attempt to consider the unique circumstances of each household when determining financial aid grants. If you have questions concerning your family’s eligibility for Tuition Assistance, please don’t hesitate to call the Admissions Office.

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • Q. Does applying for an award have an impact on my admission decision?

Unfortunately, our tuition assistance budget is not limitless. Though award decisions and Admissions decisions are made by separate committees, we cannot tout need-blind admission. It’s for this reason that we encourage families who intend to apply for aid to submit their application as early as possible.
  • Q. How will FCDS assess my family’s financial needs?

To determine a family’s financial need, FCD uses Clarity to help compute the financial complexities inherent in the cost of living in Fairfield County and other financial circumstances unique to each family.
  • Q. What is the timing of the tuition assistance process?

Your Clarity application shares the same priority deadline as your admissions application. We distribute admissions decision letters together with applicable tuition assistance awards.  Of course, if your family starts the admissions process after our priority deadline, we will work with you to try to get your application reviewed on a timely basis.
  • Q. What if our family is separated or I am a single parent?

Our students come from a variety of family structures. Each family’s situation is considered on an individual basis. In cases of divorce or separation, both the custodial parent and the non-custodial parent are required to provide financial information to qualify for tuition assistance.
  • Q. What about tuition refunds?

Your family is enrolled in a Tuition Refund Plan when you enroll your son at FCDS. If your son withdraws after the school year is underway, the Tuition Refund Plan will pay benefits (subject to the terms of the policy and the amount insured) to the school, which provides substantial assistance in meeting your financial obligation.
  • Q. Will my son’s award change from year to year?

You will be required to complete the application process every year.  Awards will remain approximately the same percentage of tuition each year as long as your family’s financial situation remains constant.
  • Q. Will our family have to pay back an award?

Never. A family’s award from FCDS is considered a grant. Our institution does not issue loans.
