Welcome

“From the beginning, Country Day was more than a school that cultivated the academic mind. It was a community – a community of parents, faculty, staff, and students who shaped my character and taught me how to live a diligent, upstanding life.”

Mission Statement

Fairfield Country Day School provides an educational community dedicated to the personal growth and intellectual development of boys. Our balanced and challenging program is designed to help each student expand his desire and ability to acquire knowledge, stimulate his curiosity and creativity, and enhance his self esteem and respect for others. Each boy’s individual development is encouraged in an environment that anticipates the future while appreciating the past.
Dear Visitors,

Welcome! This website is a glimpse into the wonderful world of Fairfield Country Day School, a leading private, independent school for boys in Fairfield County, Connecticut in grades kindergarten through nine. For eighty years, teaching boys is what we have done best and our commitment to single gender education remains resolute. We treasure boyhood!

The Country Day community shares a common purpose of academic excellence. Our challenging, boy-specific curriculum is rigorously designed to stretch each boy to reach his full potential. The academic program is complemented by a rich and vibrant arts curriculum. At Country Day, it’s cool to sing, ring in the handbell choir, paint, and perform on stage. A signature strength of our school is our public speaking program, including our Pre-K-fifth grade poetry recitations, sixth through ninth grade debate program, and eighth and ninth grade speeches. Sports round out our typical school day with age-appropriate physical education in grades K through three, intramural sports in grades four and five, and interscholastic team competition within the Fairchester Athletic Association in grades six through nine. Our tight-knit student body of 260 boys possesses a unique blend of diverse talents and energies where every boy is known and every boy is celebrated.

The core strength of the School lies in the development of meaningful relationships between our students and our caring faculty. Our teachers actively engage in all facets of school life. They deliver powerful lessons in multiple contexts; from the classroom, to the stage, to the fields, as well as in the community. Underpinning the relational connections between teachers and students is a purposeful commitment to character education. Empathy, collaboration, stewardship, and resilience are a few of the FCDS Core Competencies that are benchmarked across all grade levels with measurable expectations. Above all else, we aspire to live by our school motto, Laboribus Iudicamur: We are judged by our deeds.

No area of school life better demonstrates the power of peer to peer connections than the dining hall. Our family style approach to lunch enhances the culture of inclusiveness at Country Day. Boys from different grade levels dine together with teachers at every table. Each boy is responsible for a daily lunch room task. Within this setting, everyone grows to know everyone, and older boys set the tone by role modeling behaviors of responsibility, respect, and positive leadership.

I encourage you to delve into our website and learn more about what makes FCDS tick. Of course, nothing replaces the experience of a personal visit to our school. I invite you to spend some time with us on campus to see firsthand the amazing work we do with boys. We would love to meet you and help you envision whether this is the right school for your son to realize his best.

Warmly,
Signature
