The Learning Commons is the latest renovation on campus bringing new educational resources to all students and faculty. Comprising approximately 1100 square feet, the Learning Commons consists of a quiet study area, flexible work stations for small and large group meetings, an extensive book collection - both print and online, a sound recording studio, video editing equipment, and a distance learning lab. The Learning Commons is staffed by a full- time director and a part-time librarian.
The FCDS Learning Commons is a dynamic resource for all students and faculty to use to facilitate teaching and learning. It is an open space concept that accommodates our earliest readers to our most technologically advanced ninth graders. It includes a distance learning lab, sound recording studio, and center for video editing. The distance learning lab, or “global classroom” supports recent partnerships between FCDS and schools in Spain and Japan, along with future endeavors as we expand our connections with cultures across the world.

The Learning Commons blends the library and technology components together – teaching students in grade-appropriate ways to find information, whether online or in books. Supporting the FCDS Technology Plan and our Core Competencies  the Learning Commons is a 21st Century learning environment, cultivating a love of reading, collaborative learning, and promoting the effective use of information and communications technology.

The FCDS Learning Commons is a welcoming space for all boys – and a space where interdisciplinary, project-based, cross-division learning is encouraged. It is also a gathering place, a hub of the building that fosters a sense of belonging and provides space for academics, activities and quiet study.
