  • Language Arts (grades 7 - 9): Engaging in Conversation

The premise of this course stems from a love of connecting with others and developing strong, meaningful, and long-lasting relationships. When we are comfortable with who we are and know ourselves well, engaging in conversations with others becomes something we seek out rather than try to avoid. In this class we will spend some time examining ourselves as individuals by having an honest look at who we are and what we are interested in. Through learning about Self Determination Theory (the need to feel competent at what you do, the need to feel authentic in your life, the need to feel connected to others), we will establish a stronger understanding of why it is so important to feel competent, authentic, and connected to others and how we can become more confident individuals who are capable of talking to anyone. At the completion of this course, each student will be better equipped to engage with his/her peers and parents, participate in class discussions, and have far more confidence in the interview process.
